 Doing this project reminded me of how fun and freeing it is to just let go and paint. While painting, I thought of Lee Krasner and her life on Long Island with Pollack, being out in the countryside, exploring, finding inspiration in simple things.

Krasner's painting that inspired me to do a cold weather ensemble. 
The jeans definitely evoke Blue 
Stone, all muddled and messy.

If Lee Krasner's Blue Stone were a place, it would be......

Macau!

Macau is a jumble of cultures and buildings with everything built organically. It seems that city planning was not a priority! It reminds me of Blue Stone because it's a mess of architecture, plant life, hanging laundry, and, now, casinos. The city was built and created as peoples' needs came about; it was automatic, a gesture. I see that as a comparison to Krasner's abstract expressionist work, automatic and gestural.

Lee Krasner is so amazing. She was a strong woman who had a turbulent marriage with the powerful artist, Jackson Pollock and she didn't let that take over her work. Of course she was very influenced by her husband, but her work is still very individual and all her own. A true Abstract Expressionist, Krasner's gestural works are so dramatic and emotional. She worked in paint, on paper, and with collage. The above piece is a lithograph.

I couldn't help but go more with the India theme on this one. Rajasthan is such a culturally rich place with heavy aesthetics. I had to go with it. O'Keeffe's painting could have been influenced by India if O'Keeffe had gone there herself. I like to imagine what would have happened in her work if she had. She was very influenced by her surroundings. If she did travel there India, I think she would have been bombarded and possibly overcome.

Though the painting It was Yellow and Pink is abstract and simple, it has a richness that is very Indian. I see all of these items in a small sitting room. The colors are a bit overwhelming, but, like the painting, they work nicely together.

I never thought of pink and gold going well together until I saw O'Keeffe's painting It was Yellow and Pink. Putting this outfit together proved that it works. The necklace is so beautiful and reminds me so much of Rajasthan. The fun Indian film Bride and Prejudice was an influence as well. Aishwarya Rai is gorgeous! I really put this together for her.

If Georgia O'Keeffe's painting It was Pink and Yellow were a place, it would be.......

Jaipur, India!

The Pink City. It's true, Jaipur is surprisingly pink. The color was chosen to emulate sandstone buildings of Mughal cities. Since 1876, when the Prince of Wales visited, the buildings have been painted a darker pinkish-red. It's a beautiful place full of unusual architecture and the gorgeous Amer fort.

A little bit of warmth during the cold winter months. Isn't this a strange Georgia O'Keeffe painting? It's not the usual flower close up or southwest landscape. The colors are a peculiar pairing and it's so abstract. There's something about it that's riveting...is it the illusion of depth? the weird colors? the unusual composition? Whatever it is, I love it!
