Seashells

A little drawing to help get me back to drawing and painting. Finally, the need to create has won.

Inspired by an interactive piece at the UC Berkeley Art Museum, I made a fun little sculpture in the kids area. The artist Charles Long created a wonderful display with blocks of plasticine for kids (and some adults) to make something and put it out for display. It was quite popular with my boys and I had a great time too! Since Nozkowski has been on my mind, I did a sculpture inspired by him.

Fine Garden Details Drawings

Growing Synapses, technical pen on paper, copyright Nina Leung, 2014
The drawing above is what I imagine an underlying cell structure of a plant might be. It's like a fake, microscopic botanical drawing. It also makes me think of a nervous system in some strange creature.

Leaf Dreams, pen and ink on bristol, copyright Nina Leung, 2014
This one was inspired by Hugo Guinness. I love the stark black and white contrast. It's loosely based on a botanical drawing I found in the Encyclopedia of Illustration
